7 Self leadership Strategies for This Moment
A lot of us are hurting really bad right now, we’re experiencing anger, sadness, grief and a lot of rage.
We are numb, we are tired, we are exhausted, we are distraught.
We are traumatised by the constant and consistent violence against black bodies.
This is a gentle reminder that we shouldn’t forget to take care of ourselves in this moment. Taking time and space to check in with ourselves right now is a necessary act of love for ourselves so that we can cope long term.
7 Self leadership Strategies for This Moment
𝟭. Check on your friends, especially the strong ones. Like @alldondre said on instagram , black and brown people need to perform triage on each-other right now, to help each other through this!
𝟮. Breathe, use deep breathing to interrupt your stress response which will power up your nervous system & give you protection towards all the triggering information and visuals that’s flooding your timeline right now.
𝟯. Go back to basics, treat your body right. Drink water, eat high energy fresh foods and get enough sleep, treat your body like the temple that it is, nurture it.
𝟰. Try to avoid numbing, alcohol and such will only help short term. The feelings will still remain so allow yourself to feel your feelings fully, give yourself permission to process your emotions.
𝟱. Give yourself time to process, take all the time you need, what we’ve been seeing in the last week is deeply traumatising. Its ok to take a time out and create space for your grief and sadness.
𝟲. Clear emotions, move that energy out of your body. Cry, journal, run, walk, sing, scream, draw, talk to others. Find ways to start moving that energy out of your body on a regular basis. Walks in nature has been my medicine in this period, it helps me regulate.
𝟳. Alchemize your feelings into actions, protest, write, have the hard conversations with your (white) friends/colleagues/partners, have the conversation in your professional space, create space, hold space for others, create, express yourself.
Give yourself permission to take care of you. Create the best conditions within yourself to be able to contribute long term in this continuous struggle for our humanity 🧡
